We set out to make our Yamaha Grizzly both tougher and more capable in the worst trail conditions with three simple bolt-ons from Yamaha’s GYTR line and Excel Tires. GYTR aluminum skid plates cover the undercarriage while GYTR Brush Deflectors and Extenders help keep the riders hands dry and clean. Excel Tires’ new SlingShot XT tires provide a significant boost in traction in the worst trail conditions.

We recently had the opportunity to test Tarantula Performance Racing’s Project Yamaha YFZ450R at Crow Canyon Ride Park located in Uhrichsville Ohio. TPR built their $18.000 motocross racer to showcase their new Race Safer nerf bars and MX front bumper. A host of other contributing companies included ATP Racing Engines, Fox Shox, ATV Four Play, DWT, Maxxis, RPM, Twin Air, Galfer, and CV4. This YFZ450R was built to win on the track without sacrificing reliability. Our only complaint was not getting more time with the machine.

Our test of the 2010 Yamaha Grizzly 550 with power steering left us surprisingly excited about Yamaha’s mid bore full size 4x4. It’s light and nimble like a small bore, yet comfortable, controllable and plush like a big bore. With a motor whose performance is somewhere in between, the Grizzly 550 with power steering is one of the best all around utilities we have tested.
