2023 Can-Am Renegade and Outlander ATV Lineup Review: WITH VIDEO
Updates for Outlander, Renegade, and NEW Renegade 70, 110 and 110 X XC Youth ATVs
For 2023, Can-Am pledges to stay ahead of the competition no matter whether the playground is in the water, on the street, or in the dirt. Based on their 2023 ATV lineup we suspect they mean it.
2023 Renegade and Outlander Updates
The horsepower leading full-size Outlander and Renegade lineup was last significantly updated in 2019 with wider track widths, updated suspension, increased horsepower and more. For 2023 both the full size Renegade, Outlander and Outlander Max models received new styling with 4 LED headlights. Along with redesigned front fascia on both lines, the Renegade features a removable front grill for easier radiator cleaning.
In addition to their selectable, three mode electric power steering and throttle modes, intelligent engine braking has been added for 2023, designed to allow you to select the level of braking that best fits your riding style. It provides 3 levels of engine braking to choose from on the full size machines. The system works by cutting the throttle more or less abruptly effecting how smoothly or abruptly engine braking engages.
Can-Am tells us, “The Outlander 650 was losing popularity due to people sizing up to the 850. The price difference was close enough that the 650 was discontinued leaving their mid-size 450 and 570 and full size 850 and 1000 models.”
The Rotax 650 engine lives on for 2023 on the Outlander 6×6 and Renegade models. The Renegade 570 and 850 models have been cut from the lineup replaced by a Renegade 650 available in a base trim only. XT-P and X-XC packages are still available in both Outlander and Renegade, exclusively in larger displacement sizes. New Can-Am Renegade Youth ATV Lineup
For young riders, Can-Am completely revamped their youth ATV lineup for 2023! Gone are the DS models, replaced by a brand new Renegade line. Taking styling cues from the adult size Renegade models, the new Renegade 110 is designed for riders age 10 and up with the Renegade 70 for riders 6 and up. Both machines feature four-stroke engines, electronic fuel injection, electric starting and easy to use fully-automatic CVT transmissions with forward, neutral and reverse. Speed limiting functions allow parents to keep speeds under control as rider skill improves.
Both the 70 and 110 feature single A-Arm front suspension with the rear suspension comprised of a swingarm and solid rear axle out back. Suspension travel appears competitive on both models with 5” of travel up front and nearly 6” of travel out back. Both machines are a claimed 40.4” width with a 41” wheelbase which should make them stable to ride.
The 70 utilizes scaled down shocks, tires, steering stem and handlebars, sizing things down for smaller riders. The 70 also features removable floorboards allowing the rider compartment to grow with the rider.
For aggressive racer types Can-Am is offering the Renegade 110 X-XC. It’s upgraded from the factory with a two-inch wider stance, dual-A-Arm front suspension with piggyback reservoir equipped gas charged shocks, handguards and race oriented coloration. Claimed suspension travel numbers are identical on the 110 and 110 X-XC.
The 70 retails for just $2,999, the 110 for $3,599 and the 110 X-XC for $4,099. We’re currently planning on testing one of the new 2023 Renegade 110 models. Make sure to subscribe to ATV on Demand so you don’t miss it.
Conclusion
While many ATV manufacturers have appeared to be asleep behind the handlebars for some time now, Can-Am continues to impress us with their continuous updates, refinement, and new offerings for the ride-on ATV segment.
Can-Am is proudly expanding market share by adding diversity to the powersports family. Going well beyond an inclusive marketing campaign they’re actually offering unique products like the three-wheeled street legal Ryker and Spider which are universally attractive to both urban and suburban people. We love what Can-Am is doing and hope they notice the amount of diverse interest in the highly underserved sport ATV segment, step up and expand that segment for themselves as well.
